JOB PURPOSE
  • To protect border security by directing and monitoring the Immigration services in the Western Region.

  • Satisfied customers
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in preparation of the Immigration Services section of the corporate plan and

budget by:

    • Agreeing goals and objectives for the section with the Director, Immigration Services
    • Examining and costing projects or special activities planned for the unit
    • Costing equipment and supplies needed for the section
  • Ensures that systems are maintained to measure performance of the Region with respect to operational and financial targets
  • Assist the Director to review Immigration policies and procedures and recommends revisions as necessary to achieve national security objectivities and meet service delivery standards and adapt to a changing environment
  • Ensures that information on Immigration law, regulations, policies and procedures is disseminated to staff
  • Ensures on-going development of staff through establishment of orientation, training and rotation programmes
  • Ensures all deportees (incoming and outgoing) are processed according to procedures
  • Ensures the relevant officers are provided with Watch List
  • Investigates complaints against Immigration Officers
  • Attends meeting and participates in negotiations on immigration related matters
  • Evaluates job performance for staff
  • Performs other related duties that may be assigned
KEY COMPETENCIES – The post holder needs to demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Expert knowledge of laws and regulations governing Immigration, Citizenship and Passports in Jamaica
  • Working knowledge of relevant computer applications and systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including handling conflicts and providing coaching and counseling
  • Excellent decision-making and problem solving skills
QUALIFICATIONS – Education and Experience:
  • First degree in Public Administration or Management Studies
  • Specialized training in Immigration and Passport Procedures
  • Seven (7) years related experience at the managerial level
